These measures represent a dark stain on the history of the Tunisian judiciary, which has historically championed the Palestinian cause, and a serious setback for the principles of freedom of expression and civic engagement. They raise serious questions about the extent to which the authorities respect their constitutional and international obligations in protecting fundamental rights and freedoms. Instead of valuing civil initiatives that support just causes, especially the Palestinian cause, the authorities are resorting to mechanisms of criminalization and repression, which threaten the integrity of the judiciary and undermine public trust in the justice system.
