Al-Massoudi’s health deteriorated during his hunger strike, requiring his transfer to Sahloul Hospital, where he remained under medical care for several days before subsequently being transferred to Majel Bel Abbes Hospital in Kasserine Governorate.
According to information circulating locally, Riadh Al-Massoudi died two days ago after his health condition deteriorated, passing away following a period of suffering in prison and in hospital.
Al-Massoudi’s death has once again brought attention to the conditions of prisoners on hunger strike and the medical care provided to them, as well as the safeguards that should be guaranteed to prisoners who resort to hunger strikes in protest against their judicial circumstances.
According to statements conveyed by his family and those close to him, Al-Massoudi maintained his innocence and continued to protest what he regarded as an injustice against him, before his ordeal ultimately ended in his death.
His death leaves his family and the residents of his region with painful questions regarding the circumstances of his hunger strike, the medical care he received, and the responsibilities surrounding the deterioration of his health.
